Scope and Impact
The Equities and Prime Services Investment Bank Technology Services department has responsibility for providing infrastructure support and services for Equities and Prime Services business and IT functions.

Within the department, the Platform Architecture function plays a crucial role in determining the strategic technical direction of the group. The function has an additional reporting line to the IB-TS Platform Management team which is responsible for defining infrastructure technology strategy for the IB as a whole, and driving the engineering and delivery efforts of the UBS Group Infrastructure organisation. The EQ&PS IB-TS Platform Architecture function collates and represents requirements from EQ&PS Development teams, works with the central teams to define technology strategy and drives implementation with the central and development teams

The work involves a detailed understanding of today’s technology as well as willingness to examine other industries, sectors and technology providers to allow the IB’s platform to operate at reduced cost whilst maintaining it’s place as market leader.

The function works closely with clients at multiple levels both within the Equities/Prime Services development community and also as ambassadors to other Business Streams ensuring that the overall UBS approach to infrastructure is common across streams.

This role includes management of two resources.

Overall Responsibilities:

The success of the Platform Architecture function depends on it’s ability to set strategy based on interaction with teams across the Technology Spectrum. Therefore the candidate will be expected to perform three core responsibilities:

Consultancy:

Working with application teams to solve ‘here and now’ problems and assist in creating roadmaps/direction on an application by application basis.

Projects:

Working on the Delivery of Projects that are identified by the Platform Architect Lead and Stakeholders as modules of the overall Strategy such as adoption of new technologies and assisting teams with the development of roadmaps towards overall strategy adoption.

Group Representation and Committee work:

Committee’s cover all levels of technology across UBS. The candidate will become the team and groups representative on several, reporting back to stakeholders on group decisions and presenting Equities/Prime Services requirements and views.

Basic Qualifications Four year degree (BA/BS) or international equivalent in IT, Economics, Engineering, Math or Business

Minimum of 5 years experience working in Enterprise IT


Preferred Qualifications Candidate Profile:

The candidate will have a clear understanding of the components that make up the technology stack Knowledge of the tiering and integration is essential as is a basic understanding of financial products.


An experienced IT professional who has experience of hands on technology as well as solution design.

A working understanding of the Platform Stack – Servers, Operating Systems, Storage (SAN and NAS), Databases, Middleware and Messaging

Ability to design and deliver architecture improvements

Ability to pilot the use of new technology or architectures, documenting and communicating blue-prints for wider adoption

Ability to facilitate reviews and workshops to deliver infrastructure improvement

Presentation skills – especially with regard to summarising complicated technical issues.

Good communication skills and a high degree of credibility are imperative.

An appreciation and enthusiasm to work with established, robust technology.

Financial services knowledge would be advantageous although is not essential.

Candidate should possess the below characterstics

Client:

Work directly with EQ & PS application development and support teams to understand current and future infrastructure requirements.

Understand the gaps between the desired future state and the current state, and assist in the development of a pragmatic migration path to close them.

Participate in bank-wide initiatives to improve the infrastructure estate.

Assist in the development of the strategic infrastructure plans for Equities and Prime Services

Work across streams within UBS to ensure best of breed solutions are offered to the grou’ps stakeholders and clients.

People:

Support and influence members of both the architecture and infrastructure team and the other IT teams (development, support, delivery etc.).

Provide Consultancy services across the Platform Stack.

Demonstrate leadership and personal commitment to infrastructure improvements.

Work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

Economic

Ensure that communication and issue management is clear and concise to minimise management overhead

Show understanding of bank cost base and management thereof, with the objective of contributing to cost reduction

Assist in the development of a Stream wide strategy which is both cost effective and delivers a platform that allows UBS IB to be the market leader.

Functional/Technical

Maintain knowledge of general technologies used within the Investment Banking industry.

Initiate pilot projects with Equities/Prime Services application teams to advance infrastructure technologies and supporting tools for Equities/Prime Services wide adoption.

Proven track record of delivering IT solutions

The ability to operate at multiple levels is critical the candidate must be able to change their approach to solution development and delivery and communication to match the understanding and technical knowledge of the client. This ranges from Senior Management through to Developer.

The Candidate will have hands on experience with a broad range of technologies allowing credibility with the client base to be maintained.
